Spain is a country with a history dating to before Christ, when it was divided into several mini-countries with different languages.
After 700 years of Muslim domination (ending in 1492), Spain was ruled as just one kingdom. However, the cultural and political differences persist until today. With the victory over the Moors 500 years ago, the Roman Catholic Church affirmed its influence through the infamous Inquisition, which persecuted and killed both Jews and Protestants. Now secularism is rampant and religious equality is guaranteed by the Constitution, but there are still differences with the evangelicals.
