Toni McAndrew

La Libertad, El Salvador

Bible Translation Toni works with local churches in El Salvador doing Bible translation for the deaf, accomplishing the task along with a team of deaf translators from the area. In particular, their focus is putting the Bible into Salvadorian Sign Language. Because of generally very low reading levels for deaf Salvadorians, many of them are un-reached. Sign language is their first language and Spanish (which they can't hear) is their second, which can be difficult to master because they do not use Spanish in conversation. Other projects Toni is working on are making sign language dictionaries in LESSA (Lenguaje de Señas Salvadoreña) -- including sign language Bible dictionaries -- and creating materials for teaching sign language.
